What causes dry skin?

Although being a dry skin type makes you prone to dry skin symptoms, a lack of moisture retention in
the skin can happen to anyone due to a diverse array of triggers. Dry skin can be caused by both genetic
and environmental factors — in other words, your skin may naturally produce less oil (sebum), and skin
damage may be tampering with your natural moisture barrier. For example, you might be an oily skin type
who is prone to dry skin in winter because of a lack of humidity in the air (which can be made worse by indoor heating).
Because the natural oil production of our skin also fluctuates as we age, you might regularly hydrate the skin
with a dry skin treatment to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Deep moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic
acid counteract a drop in fatty lipids when we age, plumping skin and reducing the appearance of fine lines
and wrinkles. So even if you’re not prone to signs of dry skin, you might still find that the best moisturizer
for oily skin is a richly hydrating moisturizer with a creamy texture that soothes and smooths your face.
Follow the RIGHT CLEANING HABITS for your skin.
How To Treat DRY SKIN:-
When you wake up splash cool water on your face to refresh. Use a moisturizing cleanser and gently
cleanse the face. Then tone your skin with toner (Pick toner that does not dry your skin more).
Once this is done, moisturize the skin thoroughly, until it gets absorbed completely. Sunscreen the skin,
before you step out in sun. If it's too sunny and you are exposing your skin more,
try to reapply the sunscreen every few hours. If you do want to use makeup, it's better to keep it light.
Using tinted moisturizers, BB creams & concealers are good options.
Make sure the products you pick for skin, moisturize your skin, and not dry.
For natural toner, you can use 1 is to 4 proportion of aloe vera and water, and use that or you could use rose water too!
NEVER wash your face in hot or even warm water. Hot water promotes water loss making your skin
feel even drier! Use lukewarm water or water that is closest in temperature to that of your skin.
Switch to a nourishing lightweight gel-based cleanser or a milky cleanser.
Exfoliate once a week or once in 10 days. Exfoliation (scrubbing) removes dry skin cells and preps your
skin to better absorb the moisture that you provide with your serums, essences, or moisturizers.
Massage your face while washing it - massage is fantastic for dry skin. It increases microcirculation; it brings
oxygen and nutrients to your cells making your skin glow.
Along with all the outer care, keep a check on what should go inside your body.
Make sure you have lots of water – that’s the basic rule. If not water, lots of liquids and foods having a high
water content. Be smart and choose fresh juice over soda. Eat food rich in vitamins. This will help keep your
skin firm, dewy, and moisturized from within. Avoid over-fried food and choose more of raw and boiled food.
Night routine:-
The time when your sleep is when maximum skin repair occurs, and if you apply the right products
to your skin at this time, your skin will heal more quickly and stay healthy. After coming back home,
rinse your face with warm water and remove the makeup off your face with a cleansing oil or makeup
remover. Then, cleanse your face in the same way you did in the morning. Follow it up with a thick and
nourishing night cream that keeps your skin moisturized throughout the night. Make sure you sleep for a good 7-8 hours.
Layering is a great tip for dry skin - just like layering is the best way to keep yourself warm during the winter.
Just slapping on the thickest and heaviest moisturizer is not the best thing for your dry skin.
Start with hydrating your face well with a spray of rose water toner. Pat or gently tap it into your skin.
Follow up with a Hyaluronic Acid Serum that helps pull the moisture into your skin. If my skin is feeling
really dry I sometimes repeat this step till my skin feels really hydrated and plumped up!
The next step is your moisturizer. Instead of applying a thick layer of very heavy moisturizer, it is better to apply a
thin layer of a lighter one. If there are dryer areas of the face apply another layer to just those areas instead of
all over your face.
Your last layer - and this is one I especially love and advise you to do if you want to wake up with your skin
feeling nourished and well-rested - is your facial oil. Take a drop or two of your favorite facial oil
(I alternate between rosehip oil (vitamin C) and sweet almond oil (vitamin E) ), warm it between the palms
of your hand and then press it into your skin.
3) INGREDIENTS that you should look for while buying skincare products are
GLYCERIN
HYALURONIC ACID
ALOE
OATS
PLANT OILS and BUTTERS
4) Last of all, if you sleep in an air-conditioned room (in the summer) or in a heated room
(in the winter) invest in a humidifier.
This keeps the moisture level at an optimum level.
Your skin will absorb it, your skincare products will become that much more efficient
and your skin will be so much happier.
